I really enjoyed reading your thoughts about this. It would be great if they put some of the money into Torchwood - I didn't know they were going to have a truncated season and I really enjoy that show too.

I wonder what Dylan Moran would think if he knew so many people thought he would make an awesome Doctor Who. She said DW was the most entertaining experience of her acting career, which is pretty awesome considering she had her own sketch show. I know she'll never be back for long, and maybe she shouldn't. But it would be awesome if she showed up unexpectedly, even on TW. How do we know Capt. Jack knows she's mind-wiped?

- Current speculation is that Tennant will be around for the gap year specials and maybe two seasons after that. Which sounds about right to me.

- I was kinda surprised at how many people yelled out "Ianto!" when the idea of a male Companion came up. After last weekend, I'm pretty sure that TW has become a pretty huge American hit and it'll stick around in some form. If you saw my Media Scribbler interview, I actually broached the idea to Gareth David-Lloyd and he seemed pretty delighted that fans would even put him in the realm of Companion consideration. It won't happen probably, but it's still an interesting thought.

- Gareth made it clear that he wants TW to go on holiday. He'd like to film some eps in the States. Which would be a huge budgetary jump, but it might appeal to the American fans if they attempted it. I thought that was a pretty funny statement from him, considering it was about 500 degrees in Atlanta the whole weekend and he looked like he was suffering at points. But I guess the cast is sick of rain.

- And this wasn't from the weekend, but I saw a magazine spread where John Barrowman was talking about various items you see him Capt. Jack's office in the Hub, and he showed a bit of coral and said that Jack is growing his own TARDIS. Dunno if he was trying to be funny or serious, but talk about a plotline if he could do it...

Re: ‘Journey’s End’ Review and Therapy Session

Unfortunately, Freema Agyeman has just joined the cast of "Law and Order: UK", and it's rumored that she's been canned from "Torchwood" as a result. CC lost his grasp on everything concerning the Mythology about the time of the movie, and they probably should've just eased it out before DD left. But who knows? And I agree that PMP was one of the best episodes, and the shipperness was off the charts. But I'm almost of the opinion that the two just can't be together because there are two many conflicts in their personalities to get through the day-to-day stuff.

Re: Please, Chris Carter, I Beg Of You To Correct Your Sins

I was a giant fan back from episode one -- and I remember when the doubts crept in. The first major one hit me when the first episode of Millennium aired, and I abruptly realized "holy carp, Chris Carter can't write. He's being totally saved by the actors in X-Files managing to be so fascinating no one realises what a disaster the *writing* is."

The move is around when I threw up my hands and became an intermittent fan at best. Not simply because the movie was bad (I expected that - when has a movie of a still-airing TV show *ever* been good? Ever? Even once?), but because it was clear just how little clue CC & crew had about wtf they were up to with the mythology, and also how little they cared about character consistency. I watched bits and pieces of season six, maybe 2-3 eps of 7, and only the finale after that. (I just had to Google "Dearest Dana ..." Eeek!)

And yet ... I'm surprised by how much happy nostalgia the good bits still stir up. I got the Revelations DVD that just came out to refresh my memory, and wow. I wasn't really a 'shipper when the show was on the air, but watching the eps now, in retrospect, I think I'm being converted. It's not even really in the writing, but when they were both on, GA & DD had amazing screen chemistry. (Which is pretty funny, considering how minimal their off-screen chemistry seemed to be. In interviews, they always came off as two very, very different people.) That dance is Post Modern Prometheus is more intriguing and romantic than any actual romance movie I've seen in years.

So. Crossing my fingers also and hoping it's not a train wreck!

Re: A New Gig

Congratulations!

Re: A New Gig

Grats! I'd rather see new folks who develop amazingly, than a reasonably big named star as a character we end up adoring who has to be wiped out in the end. And sheesh, with Tennant's rumored payday of about two million dollars or more for a four special 2009 before coming back from his stage work for a full series in 2010...WELL.

I don't think Doctor Prius would go all wacky having children at his disposal. He's half Doctor - who wouldn't ever do that even if he hadn't already been a dad - and half New!Improved!Donna! who was very much influenced by that Doctor. His human element has the capacity to carry out what we humans would consider a justified violence solution, but that's very much a "when provoked" sort of thing. He'd be happy to have a family again, and I think he'd limit himself in his running off and saving the planet, because he knows his lifespan is much more finite than it would be if he were a full Time Lord. This Doctor, I think, would almost be content settling down after everything he had seen, once Rose's influence had done its work. The Doctor has been changed from the man who destroyed Gallifrey once before; it can happen again, and more quickly now with the human aspect.

From what I have seen of David Tennant not being the Doctor, hair appears to be the least of his concerns. *L* He comes off as a bit scruffy much of the time. I think the ONLY time his hair looks like that is when the BBC stylists get hold of him!

You know who was really gorgeous, though? Adjoa Andoh, Martha's mom. Best I've ever seen her look, and I covet her cantaloupe colored sweater quite badly.

Going back and reviewing, I almost think my favorite bit was the Dalek Bowling in the Vault. Next to Jack's pervy little, "I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now," in regards to having essentially three Doctors running about.

And yeah...if you watch all of the eps from the first two seasons Jackie was in, and compare her to all we saw of both Regular Pete and Parallel Pete, it is VERY clear that the best bits of Rose really came from her dad, and the histrionic drama queen gene was passed unfortunately intact to Rose. Blah. I'm still annoyed at how much Rose peeved me this story arc. I really did love her a lot at one time.

Right, back to mopping the floor.

Re: ‘Journey’s End’ Review and Therapy Session

I can't believe that I forgot to mention Naked Doctor! Hehehehe! It would be wicked if someone could leak an "outtake" from the shooting that day. We've all seen the pic of DT naked, but this is special.

BTW, you ever wondered how much DT spends a week on his hair? I mean, the BBC can't keep it that beautiful year-round. Just a thought.

"Prius Doctor". That's a pretty perfect name. I don't think he's going to be happy to just sit on parallel Earth and be human and snuggly with Rose forever. He could get involved with Torchwood and start using their technology to become a proper Doctor. Not to mention if he gets a part-Time Lord baby to use and go all Emperor on. I don't think Rose has a strong enough will to stand up to him unless he really becomes a right prick or endangers their children.

I thought Gwen got the best treatment of any of the secondary characters. I hope that the trade-off for only five eps is that they sign them to at least a couple DW eps every series for awhile. Gwen always wanted her own project, so why not give her the ultimate one and send her off with the Doctor for a spell?

Jackie was the one that saved the day when DT was created, and I don't think it's fair that she's not given more respect now. Although her just surviving was being kind.

BTW, she left her husband and her baby to run after her daughter because she couldn't let her go? Sounds like Rose got her weird selfish streak from someone.

I've been hearing rumors that the BBC is trying to sign Kylie to do more eps and that they're going to get more "star power" for the specials. I hope not. I think they'd do better to get a lesser-known actor and keep them for two or three series like Billie Piper did. They knew they could never afford CT for more than she got, and it hurt that story ultimately that it got cut like that.

Re: ‘Journey’s End’ Review and Therapy Session

Hello, I'm your Friendly Neighborhood Doctor Who Overthinker And Analyzer! Allons-y!

Right off the top - oh, I'd love to know why Mickey can go back to their original universe but Rose can't. There's the great big hole, for me. As for the rest of it...

So I sobbed, plenty. Donna's my favorite Companion of the new series. I hate to see her go the way of Zoe and Jamie. Better than her being dead, I suppose, but she'd developed so marvelously. I hate that she was essentially a throwaway, in the end.

I am peeved beyond BELIEF that Rose got her very own Doctor...but it did have to be done. Of course she still complained about it. OF COURSE SHE DID. I am now fully convinced that nothing hardened Rose, she was just singleminded in her pursuit of Twoo Lurve. And nothing was as important as that. Nothing at all. Poor Mickey, I'm sure she did a bang up job making him feel second fiddle in that Parallel Universe, I don't blame him for not wanting to be around anymore. Still a great whopping plot hole but whatever.

For me, Russell T. Davies did a very good job toppling her from the Awesum Companion!!1!eleventyone! pedestal she ended her original tenure on. I'm sure everyone else will see it as Rose's Well Deserved Happy Ending.

The Doctor had to send his...let's call him Doctor Prius, just to be silly (Doctor Honda Civic Hybrid just didn't have the same ring)...away. The Doctor Prius embodies exactly what the Doctor strives NOT to be: someone who sees violence as a solution instead of a final resort. The human input into the clone created the capacity to kill, and that is not something the Doctor wants custodianship of in the universe he polices. There would be a constant battle between the two of them, creating more chaos than is necessary. Better to stash him away in a universe where he can be helpful to Torchwood, and where he can keep Rose from wanting to breach the walls of the universe again. Because you know she would have tried. This way the Doctor doesn't have to look every day on the living embodiment of the part of him that made the decision to end the Time War and subsequently destroy Gallifrey...and he doesn't have to worry about Rose impulsively destroying the universes in her desire to get back to him. He very smartly subjugated his own desires there for the good of all worlds. I think it helps that he knows he will not be alone, in future, that someone will come along and be even more amazing than Rose.

Harriet Jones was not a bad guy. She, like Yvonne Hartman before her, chose to do what she saw as her duty to Queen, Country, and ultimately Planet. She did not make the wisest or most humane decision in The Christmas Invasion, but she felt she had more of a responsibility to the planet than she did to the Doctor's opinion of what was an acceptable course of action. She had more clarity of sight regarding the Doctor than he gave her credit for. I hope what she did in the end opened his eyes to that, at least.

The other 26 planets were returned to their rightful places and times by the Doctor, Doctor Prius, and Doctor-Donna before Doctor Prius chose to destroy the Daleks. It was a very quick sequence that started with Doctor-Donna boasting about her typing skills.

I do wish Martha and Jack had gotten more screentime but eh, we'll see plenty of them in 2010. They did what they needed.

I also wish the Doctor hadn't been a bit snide to Jackie when it came to piloting the Tardis. Bit of an ass moment there.

Yay for the appearance of Sarah Jane's sonic lipstick and K-9!

Yay for the Doctor and Rose linking Gwen back to The Unquiet Dead!

Yay for half naked David Tennant!...er, wait...no. YAY!

Can't wait to see what Moffat does with the franchise, really. I love his work to bits. I hope like you do that he brings in some alien Companions, and I hope they'll start lasting more than a season or two.

Back to disinfecting the kitchen now. All in all, brilliant episode, A++++++, would definitely buy again. :P

Re: We All Need Our Wellies

Saw that in the paper just this week, funny story, great pic you found there ;-)

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

I think Ianto was a junior researcher, so he probably wouldn't have had much to do with anything other than being in his office, doing the research thing. TW Cardiff is much smaller than TW Canary Wharf, so all of its employees pretty much have to be hands on and involved in everything; TW Canary Wharf was large enough to be very corporate. If Donna ever passed through Ianto's attention at all it was likely to be a name on some paperwork. He might remember her name, maybe, but she hasn't been formally introduced yyet, surname as well as first name. That might be a small enough loose end they don't even address it.

I really don't want Tennant to leave. He has worked literally since he was three years old to get exactly this role (he was not kidding when he said he worked toward his goal with absurd singlemindedness. he may well be the ultimate Who fanboy) and I think he really wants to be the Doctor who beats Tom Baker's very impressive tenure. On the other hand, he also loves doing stage work. I'm sure whichever decision he made was agonizing for him.

At this point, with just about two hours to go before all the information we want hits the internet, I have ceased speculating and am just waiting on the edge of my seat for the excrement to hit the rotating blades. :) I can't even formulate an opinion anymore as to what might or might not happen, I am way too excited.

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

Oh, and as far as the DT/CT "is he leaving?" speculation, I think that DT is having far too much fun to quit playing the role right now. If you watched Confidential this week, he's being a total fan when he meets Davros. If they work it out where he does other projects every other year, I think they'll keep him for awhile. Especially if Moffett doesn't suck.

And as far as the regeneration goes, you'd think that by now the Doctor would have Companion training or something so they know the basics like that. Only Jack has any clue what to do now. But at least Rose knows to make him tea this time.

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

After doing some rewatching of older eps today (everyone should probably revisit "The Runaway Bride" tonight so we'll all remember certain things) I've developed a new theory. And now I'm seeing it on the forums (which are a new and great discovery of mine -- before now I primarily stuck to fan blogs and Digital Spy) and it makes sense. Donna's going to become a time lord.

Think about it -- the weird things that have happened around her her entire life (according to Rose last week), being "picked" by TW (and wouldn't Ianto recognize her from there, FYI? He was with Torchwood London at one point.) and the fact aliens keep saying she's "new" or "special" when she keeps doing the whole "I'm just a lowly human temp" thing. And it would be a way not to kill her, but possibly warp her so badly in the process that she's gone. We saw her flying the TARDIS after all. Who says she won't get a look at something she's not ready for and it warps her brain like the Master? Puts her into a parallel world with amnesia again or something. I have a feeling that if I'm correct, a lot of the old-Whoverse fans are going to be really mad. But I do like the thought of her being around, even if she ends up changing human form because they can't get CT back occasionally. And I also like the thought that I've seen on some of the forums that this is the beginning, with Jenny, of a new race of Time Lords. They've already shown he has his adopted "Children of Time", but if he is no longer alone in the universe, it would be interesting to see where his priorities would lie.

I'm figuring that there's going to be two Doctors, too. It's rumored they're sending the old one off with Rose. RTD is such a shipper that I could almost see it happening, but I'm not sure if I like that at all. I get that he loves her, but would he really give up everything else to go with her? I also wonder if they'll bring the Shadow Proclamation chasing the Doctor across time to arrest him for taking off.

When you look at Rose's eyes when she sees Davros on screen, with that look that says she's already well acquainted with him, I pretty much knew something had happened. There are only two men she cared enough about to go dashing off, and she's looking for only one of them.

Oh, and I thought it says a lot about the Doctor's character that the one moment he lets his guard down for purely expressed emotion, he gets fried by a Dalek. He's got good reasons to be commitment-phobic.

I'm very hopeful that we don't see massively painful concentration-camp-like images of humans being used for the Crucible. The humans have been pretty badly beaten up upon already. But as Rose has said about 50 times over the last two weeks, it's just beginning for them.

And maybe it was just the extremeness of the moment, with the Doctor beginning to change, but it didn't seem to me like Jack was completely thrilled Rose is back. Just a hunch. And some of the spoiler speculation is that Rose and Martha are going to be jockeying for position through the finale, so that's going to suck.

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

I don't think they'll kill anyone off whose primary role is on another show. That would be a degree of assholery I don't think RTD would touch. Even if Sarah Jane and Jack both originated on DW, they now have their own universe, and it would be very unfair to kill them off outside of that universe. Likewise for anyone who originated in the new TW and SJA worlds - not right to kill them off outside their own bailiwick.

I don't expect Jenny to show up, either.

Martha, yeah, I have heard the rumors of her going to TW, and they do need a medic. I've also heard that Mickey's going there. But there have been no confirmations of contracts signed, and remember TW is only going to be a few eps next year, too.

Tennant has said publicly that Catherine Tate really stitched him up by announcing he would be retiring from DW when he has no plans to. But he's also said he plans to keep the public guessing as to when he'll leave. And his speech about how Tate really messed him up had an air of the gentleman protesting too much about it. One theory is that the spare hand will grow a new Doctor. So we'll either have two Doctors or we might have one dead Doctor body...and a new Doctor grown from the hand, which would neatly answer the question as to how long we have till we hit the 13th and last Doctor. Presumably a Doctor grown from spare bits would be starting over from his first incarnation.

Another theory is that the 2009 specials are going to be done with flashbacks intercut into the main plot. So we'll see flashbacks of Ten...yet River Song recognized TEN, so...he can't regenerate into a new face yet else how would she know him as Ten? Further, with practice and proper training, a Time Lord can choose their appearance. Remember the Master said he could be young and strong just like the Doctor, and if you look back into Old Who history you know that Romana chose her regeneration time and appearance. The Doctor doesn't have a finetuned regeneration process because he never paid attention in that part of Time Lord school. But we know he's gaining control over things he can do and is learning new tricks, because of the bit where he can now open the Tardis with a snap of his fingers.

He might just choose to keep his current appearance. Therefore he would be Ten AND Eleven, technically. I just don't know. In the history of the show, regeneration is not done as a cliffhanger device. It's introduced and done in one show. So either RTD is breaking with tradition in a very big way - going out with a bang, I guess - or he really is just fucking with us.

As for Rose and Donna - if we're talking human Companions, they're top of my list. CT has been very clear that this will be her only season and we haven't had a working Companion cack it yet in this series. Rose will go back to her parallel world or be killed, and my money is on her going back to her place and Donna becomes the first Companion of the new series to die "on duty," as it were. Which is going to suck and make me sad but something has to be done.

Or...one person said it could be the Tardis. That could be interesting. And problematic.

You're right about us not hearing word one about Pete Tyler. We've seen everyone but him in the trailers and previews. That would very much suck if he were killed off. It would also be exactly like Davros to do that. As you are learning, the Daleks are scary bits of work, very very scary even to someone who cannot die, because all of them are as singleminded and sure in their beliefs as their creator, who wants so much to be a God. The Sontarans are bloodthirsty, the Master was just insane, the Cybermen are frightening because to a degree they have the same idea that they are correct in what they are doing...but the Cybermen just think everyone should be the same and should all be upgraded. The Dalek singlemindedness is that they don't want ANYONE like them around, they want to be on top and they will kill everyone they need to kill (which is...well, everyone) in order to achieve their initiative. They ar the ultimate nasty xenophobes.

Must run now.

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

I've now been watching the Confidential for this week and now understand a lot more. I've acquired a few of his eps to watch before Saturday. And their segment on why Jack and Sarah Jane are so flat-out terrified was also good. It's interesting how they have intertwined that one alien into so many years and incarnations.

I liked your idea of listing who's NOT going to bite dirt (sorry, bad TW joke there) this week:

- DT. He's been seen filming the Christmas ep. They're basically skipping a whole year of the show to let him do his Shakespeare. He's not going anywhere.
- Jenny. If she shows up (and I don't think she will) she'll help him regenerate. She's simply in a part of the universe unaffected by the stolen planets.
- Sarah Jane. Too beloved. Too underutilized by RTD outside the kiddie show. He'll leave her behind for Moffett. And if the Daleks so much as touch a hair on her kid's head, I'm going to have a real rant about how he's made the companions into his own Scullys this season (hope you understand the X-Files reference.)
- Jack. Well, he may die about 1,000 more times fighting the Daleks. But somehow I think he's going to have it easier after going through Hell (literally) in the TW finale.
- I'm not having good feelings about Ianto's fate, though. That would be a sneaky way to free Jack up and end the storyline that's made it hardest for the show to go family-friendly.
- I seem to recall being told somewhere (probably by Michael) that they always spare the Companion's parents. I think Wulf will end up saving him and Sylvia with his knowledge of aliens (sounds like he and Donna have been chatting a bit.) But I suspect that one of the reasons Rose is so hardened is that her dad was killed, again. We know Mickey and Jackie are alive, I think, or they're at least showing up next week. But I'm willing to bet that the Daleks came after her family in her parallel universe first, looking for the Doctor and taking it out on them.
- I think Gwen is too integral to the Torchwood story. The only thing that worries me is that they might think she and Martha might be too much alike. But she deserves a good Moffett story arc.
- I think Martha's signed for TW 3, right?

Before tonight, I was 99 percent certain that Donna would die, probably while saving Rose. That's been the garden path we've been lead down with spoilers. Now? The tabs are saying that Billie Piper's got the best shot at breaking the US of the latest generation of UK stars (if she wants that, which is debatable) so they might just cut ties with a proper ending. I'm completely up in the air now.

Re: Thoughts About Davros, Daleks and All Things Donna

Oh, yeah, Davros is a really nasty piece of work. He absolutely believes he is doing absolutely the correct thing, and is doing it almost for FUN. He has always been quite a terrifying villain, to me. Bringing back the Daleks, the Sontarans, the Cybermen...all of this tweaked me a bit, but when they re-introduced Davros I nearly peed my pants.

(hello. I am dating my geekitude)

I was annoyed at Rose's lack of personal growth (as you know since I said so on Twitter, heh), but you make an excellent point that they probably did that to poke holes in the balloon of Rose's sainthood amongst the fandom. I did love Rose, but I really, really adore Donna. And now that Martha's not all Doctor-moony (as it were) I like her quite well too.

The initial broadcast of the Dalek message, with Jack's and Sarah Jane's reactions made me cry, too. And Harriet. Oh, lovely brave Harriet.

I cannot wait for this weekend, so that I can stop wanting to spit nails at RTD for that cliffhanger!
